Professor Katie Acosta discusses how queer stepfamilies navigated both the legal landscape and the challenges of plural parenting in the context of marriage equality litigation. This talk, which will be held in Rockefeller Hall Room 200 at Vassar College, is based on Acostas qualitative interviews with more than 50 lesbian, bisexual, queer, or transgender-parented families about their experiences with family courts throughout the United States.
Acosta is a Professor of Sociology at Georgia State University and is the author of "Amigas y Amantes: Sexually Nonconforming Latinas Negotiate Family" and "Queer Stepfamilies: The Path to Social and Legal Recognition."
