Rossums Universal Robots was written in 1920 by Czech writer Karel Čapek, who is credited with introducing the word robot to the world. A foundational science fiction text, the play imagines a future where robots have a place in every facet of human life domestic, labor, agriculture, transportation, war, and more. Eventually, the robots take over and destroy every human on Earth. Rossums Universal Robots mirrors the current rise of artificial intelligence in contemporary society, serving as both an analysis and a warning.
Performances at the LUMA Theater in the Fisher Center are scheduled for Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Oct. 25 at 4 p.m.
