County Players CP2 Reader Theatre: "Dead Man's Cell Phone"

County Players, one of the longest running community theatre companies in the area, will present the CP2 Readers Theatre Mini-Festival Series from Oct. 2–4.

Reading 1: “Birds of North America” by Anna Ouyang Moench. This intimate and thrilling father-and-daughter drama directed by Jeffrey Battersby will be presented Friday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m. John and his daughter Caitlyn are birders. As they scan the skies over their backyard in suburban Maryland looking for elusive birds, years go by. Relationships begin and end. Children grow up and parents age. This lyrical and endearing family portrait unfolds in delicate, detailed layers like the scattered leaves of each passing year. This talented cast features Hailey Pinkington and Josh Way. 

Reading 2: "Dead Man’s Cell Phone" by Sarah Ruhl. This beguiling and surrealist comedy directed by Kit Colbourn will be presented Saturday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. It's a comedy about how people remember the dead — and how that memorialization changes people. It is the journey of a woman forced to confront her presumptions about isolation in a technological society. Everything you thought you knew, everything you thought was dead, can be uncovered, re-discovered, and brought to life again. The reading features local actors Susan Bond, Karen Dalmer-Sheehy, Matthew DeHond, Ana Hein, Wendy Urban-Meade, and Erica Woolley. 

CP2 Readers Theatre is an exciting series at County Players which offers an opportunity for actors, directors, and audience members to experience theater in a fresh way: selected plays with full dramatic readings, no costumes, no sets, no props, and the actors perform with scripts in hand. These shows are incredible opportunities to experience great theater stripped to its essence: the playwright’s words.
