Innisfree’s Late Summer Community Day is a wonderful opportunity for local residents to explore the garden, enjoy the changing season, and take part in two special programs inspired by Asian artistic traditions. While Innisfree is especially known for its deep roots in Chinese landscape painting and garden design, it was also influenced by Japanese garden design. This Community Day honors those broader Asian influences with a lively nod to Japanese arts through hands-on calligraphy and the resonant sound of taiko drumming in the garden.

Once again, thanks in part to a generous grant from the Northeast Dutchess Fund, a fund of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, Innisfree is delighted to offer free admission and DISCOUNTED event tickets to residents of these Northeast Dutchess County communities and their hamlets on this day: Amenia, Clinton Corners, Pleasant Valley, Dover Plains, Millbrook, Millerton, North East, Pine Plains, Stanford, Washington, Wassaic, Wingdale. Proof of residency required.

During the day there are two wonderful programs in which to participate:

Japanese Taiko Drumming Workshop with Mujin Taiko at 11 a.m.

Innisfree-Inspired Japanese Calligraphy Workshop at 1 p.m.
