New York Stage and Film has been an incubator for emerging and established artists and their work since 1985, and this summer’s festival on Marist University’s scenic riverfront campus features four weeks full of imaginative and insightful plays and musicals. Hundreds of artists trace their developmental roots to New York Stage and Film, including the Tony Award winners "Hamilton" (Lin-Manuel Miranda), "Hadestown" (Anais Mitchell), "The Humans" (Stephen Karam), and "Doubt" (John Patrick Shanley).

"Lagniappe"

• Once home to sharecroppers, the Bunche Village subdivision outside of New Orleans is now made up of their suburban descendants who find community at the local corner store. Both harrowing and hilarious, "Lagniappe" follows their day-to-day lives in this story about loving and longing.

• Venue: Symphonic Hall at Marist University, Poughkeepsie

• Performance: July 11, 8 p.m.
