This Powerhouse Theater 40th anniversary summer season at Vassar College features another superb lineup of imaginative and insightful plays, workshops and works-in-progress. Powerhouse has been a launching pad for emerging artists and their groundbreaking works. In fact, the 2016 Tony Award winners for Best Play and Best Musical — Stephen Karam’s "The Humans" and Lin Manuel Miranda’s "Hamilton" — both trace their roots to Powerhouse. Perhaps one of this year's productions will be the next big smash!

"Fuenteovejuna"

• Based on actual events, Lope de Vega’s "Fuenteovejuna" shines a spotlight on the small Village of Fuente Ovejuna in 15th century Spain. The village, run by a corrupt and overbearing tyrant, must find their courage and their voice after years of horrific abuse.

• Venue: The Environmental Cooperative at the Vassar Barns

• Performances: July 10, 7 p.m.; July 11, 7 p.m.; July 12, 7 p.m.
