The Friends of Clermont, in partnership with Clermont State Historic Site, is partnering with seven other gardens on this one-day, free, self-guided tour throughout the mid-Hudson Valley. Come see the gardens! During her time in Italy, Alice Delafield Clarkson Livingston (18721964) fell in love with the beauty of classical garden design. When she returned home to Clermont, she blended those Italian influences with the charm and natural grace of English-style gardens. In the 1930s, Alice created the Walled, Wilderness, and Cutting Gardens, each with its own character and story to tell. Wear comfortable footwear, as the historic gardens contain grassy and uneven surfaces.
Along with Clermont, the other participating gardens are the Beatrix Farrand Garden at Bellefield, Blithewood, Eden Share, Garden of Eatin, Montgomery Place, Pleasant Valley Community Gardens, and Wilderstein.
