Powerhouse Theater at Vassar College: "Rita Hayworth and the Orson Welles Variations" Play Reading

This Powerhouse Theater 40th anniversary summer season at Vassar College features another superb lineup of imaginative and insightful plays, workshops and works-in-progress. Powerhouse has been a launching pad for emerging artists and their groundbreaking works. In fact, the 2016 Tony Award winners for Best Play and Best Musical — Stephen Karam’s "The Humans" and Lin Manuel Miranda’s "Hamilton" — both trace their roots to Powerhouse. Perhaps one of this year's productions will be the next big smash!

• Rita, unaware that she is in late-stage Alzheimer’s, is trapped in a never-ending cycle of jumbled memories: bull fights, talk shows, controlling producers, the ghosts of her past, and a tumultuous romance with Orson, the person she is trying to hold onto. As she tries to rewrite the past, Rita is forced to confront the difference between a tragedy and a happy ending.
