Powerhouse Theater at Vassar College: "Legerdemain" Play Reading

This Powerhouse Theater 40th anniversary summer season at Vassar College features another superb lineup of imaginative and insightful plays, workshops and works-in-progress. Powerhouse has been a launching pad for emerging artists and their groundbreaking works. In fact, the 2016 Tony Award winners for Best Play and Best Musical — Stephen Karam’s "The Humans" and Lin Manuel Miranda’s "Hamilton" — both trace their roots to Powerhouse. Perhaps one of this year's productions will be the next big smash!

"Legerdemain"

• As Halloween approaches and a strangler is on the loose, Devin, a jaded writer/waitress at Butterloafs, a chain restaurant in New England, gets to know Don Franz, her most devoted customer. Bananas appear from sleeves, grief is shared, and a story’s resurrection changes lives in the blink of an eye.
