In partnership with The Cultural Landscape Foundation, Clermont State Historic Site hosts a guided gardens walking tour and talk that brings centuries of history to life. As you explore the grounds, you'll learn about the legacy of Alice Delafield Clarkson Livingston (1872–1964), whose travels in Italy inspired a deep appreciation for classical garden design. Upon returning to Clermont, she blended Italian formality with the natural charm of English-style gardens, creating in the 1930s the Walled, Wilderness, and Cutting Gardens — each reflecting a distinct character within the historic landscape.

Note: The walking tour will start and finish at the Visitor Center. After the walking tour, there will be a slide show presentation. Comfortable footwear is recommended, as the walking tour will take place outdoors on grassy and uneven surfaces.
