The Hudson Valley Depression Glass Club hosts its 54th semi-annual Spring Show and Sale at the Veterans Memorial Building in Beacon.
The club began in 1972 by founding members Elinor Eignor, Bill and Ada Metzing, and Gene and Mickey Meier. The purpose of the club was to bring community members and collectors together to gain and preserve knowledge and promote glass manufactured in America from 1920 through the 1940s, also known as the Depression Era. Many companies made colored and clear glass, such as dishes, glasses, tableware, kitchen, bath, and bedroom items, during that time period companies such as Hazel Atlas, Hocking, Indiana, Fenton, Pyrex, Federal, and Westmoreland. While the club has continued this tradition for the last 54 years, it has grown to now include all 20th century American made glass companies and other items, such as American pottery companies some well-known ones are Roseville, McCoy, Hall, Shawnee, Haegar, and Spaulding and American China companies such as Blue Ridge, Lenox, Lotus Ware, Pickard, (Gladding, McBean & Co.), Homer Laughlin, and Bauer, and Vintage Kitchen items and accessories.
The club has its monthly meeting, as well as its Spring and Fall shows at the Veterans Memorial Building. Admission includes a raffle ticket for an hourly drawing. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
