"Between Black and White," a new group exhibition featuring four contemporary artists working across diverse media, opens at Gallery 40 on June 20. The exhibition brings together painting, textile, photography, and mixed media works that explore the expressive possibilities of the black-and-white palette, punctuated by subtle and intentional splashes of color.
Rooted in the visual tension between darkness and light, Between Black and White invites viewers to experience how limitation can expand artistic language. Each artist approaches the restrained palette differently some embracing stark monochromatic contrasts, others introducing moments of color as emotional or conceptual interruptions within the composition.
Rather than treating black and white as opposites, "Between Black and White" explores the spectrum that exists between them: nuance, ambiguity, and quiet transitions. The exhibition highlights how artists use restraint to focus attention on structure, materiality, and the interplay of light and shadow.
