Meet some of the "residents" of the Wappingers Rural Cemetery and hear their stories in this guided, costumed, living history program.
Presented by Dani Masterson in collaboration with the Wappingers Historical Society. In this popular living history tour, youll be guided through the Wappingers Rural Cemetery to meet some notable persons buried there and hear their stories. Costumed apparitions include Daniel Ashworth, First Fire Chief of the W.T. Garner Engine Company; Ephraim Tait, a mere lad of 11 years; Fred Churchill, Postmaster in Hughsonville; Sisters Maria and Johanna Mesier and the "Knocking Girl;" Peter Brower, shoemaker and descendant of the Brower family, builders of the Mesier Homestead; and Thomas Goring, bicyclist and businessman, among others.
Afternoon and evening tour times are 2:30, 3:15, 6, 6:45, 7:30 and 8 p.m. Children ages 10 and older are welcome at the afternoon and 6 p.m. tours; adults only for the after-dark tours. Evening tours will be guided by lantern, but please feel free to bring along a flashlight. Tickets available online only; no tickets at the door. Rain date is Sunday, Oct. 5.
