This Powerhouse Theater summer season at Vassar College features another superb lineup of imaginative and insightful plays, workshops and works-in-progress. For nearly 40 years, Powerhouse has been a launching pad for emerging artists and their groundbreaking works. In fact, the 2016 Tony Award winners for Best Play and Best Musical — Stephen Karam’s "The Humans" and Lin Manuel Miranda’s "Hamilton" — both trace their roots to Powerhouse. Perhaps one of this year's productions will be the next big smash!

"It's Kind of a Funny Story"

• With an anthemic score bursting with pop-rock and musical whimsy, "It’s Kind of a Funny Story" is an unflinching and uproarious look at depression, anxiety, and recovery.

• Venue: Martel Theater, Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film at Vassar College

• Performances: July 18, 8 p.m.; July 19, 2 p.m.
