The Japanese custom of Kakizome, or "first writing," traditionally takes place during the first several days of the new year and consists of expressing your hopes and dreams for the coming year on paper as a means of realizing them. It is a reflective practice based on the belief that repeating one kanji over and over helps the writer focus on the desired outcome. Join the folks at Arts Mid-Hudson for Kakizome 2025 and practice kanji to guide you into the new year. Volunteers from the Mid-Hudson Japanese Community Association will be on hand to offer guidance in choosing and writing your chosen kanji. Brushes, paper and ink will be provided. Admission is free, but space is limited.
