The Friends of Clermont invite you to the opening reception for a new Black history exhibit at the historic site, “Redefining the Family: The Livingstons and the Institution of Slavery in Early America." The exhibit examines the life and legacy of Christiana Taylor Livingston Williams Freeman (1812–1909), who was born to a Black enslaved mother and her White enslaver, a member of the Livingston family.

The exhibition is the result of research conducted by a Livingston descendant — Pennsylvania State Representative Christopher Rabb — who is scheduled to attend the opening reception. The afternoon will feature remarks and refreshments.

Click here to RSVP for the reception.

The new exhibition will be on view until June 22, 2025. Clermont is open for guided tours year-round Thursdays through Sundays. The grounds are open 8:30 a.m. to dusk every day.
