In response to the alarming increase in book-banning in the United States, the inaugural Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Bravery in Literature will celebrate intellectual freedom and will be an extension of the prestigious Eleanor Roosevelt Medals, which have honored leaders who have embraced Eleanor’s values and the call to build a better world.

Awardees who are scheduled to speak at this ceremony at the Fisher Center include: 

• Judy Blume for Lifetime Achievement (Livestream appearance)
• Maia Kobabe for "Gender Queer" (Pre-recorded acceptance speech)
• Alex Gino for "Melissa" (previously published as "George")
• George Johnson for "All Boys Aren’t Blue"
• Laurie Halse Anderson for "SHOUT"
• Mike Curato for "Flamer"
• Jelani Memory for "A Kids Book About Racism"
