This Trail Opening Event will celebrate the work done on the new Thompson-To-Tower Trail, located on the south side of the Thompson Pond Preserve, to the Stissing Fire Tower. Please note that this trail is not for beginners, but the event is for everyone. Celebrate the collaborative efforts of volunteers and organizations that have made this trail an epic experience with educational walks and talks, free food and kids' outdoor activities.
Schedule:
9:30–10 a.m., Kiosk area, early bird gear swap
10–11 a.m., Kiosk area, meet and greet
11–11:15 a.m., Circle near pond, Project Talk with Dutchess Land Conservancy, The Nature Conservancy, and Friend of Stissing Landmarks
11:15–11:30 a.m., Walk from kiosk to Thompson to Fire Tower Trail ribbon cutting
11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Thompson to Tower Trail Hike with FOSL and DLC to learn about the trail
12:30–3 p.m., Circle near pond, Kids activities with The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies
12:30–1:30 p.m., Meet at kiosk, Wetland Walk with Kevin Wickersham of Hudson Center for Community and Environment
1:45–2:45 p.m., Meet at kiosk, Pollinator Walk with Chris Layman of Fox Farm Apiary
3–4 p.m., Meet at kiosk, Geology Walk with Becky Nesel "Geobeck"
Parking will be alongside Lake Road. Please take caution as you park and walk, and do not block any driveways.
You will be handed a schedule and map upon entering the event.
