Story Screen partners with Little Loaf Bakeshop and Ame Presents to host another fabulous Drag Me to the Movies event at the Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory. Gather to watch the fantastic 1992 film by Penny Marshall starring Geena Davis, Tom Hanks and Madonna, and experience it in a whole new way with live pre-movie and intermission drag performances by some of the most talented and creative performers in the Hudson Valley (and beyond). Let's give it up for this insane line-up of drag performers who are sure to entertain you throughout the night: Al Dente (Colleen of Little Loafs drag debut!); Mo' Honey; Sweetie; and Jay Bird Artivist.
Click here to purchase tickets. Each ticket purchased includes: one admission with one ticket stub that can be turned in for either one free drink or one entry into the raffle loaded with some ridiculously fun prizes! Once you've completed your purchase, your name will be added to the admissions list. You can arrive at the venue once doors have opened at 6 p.m. to claim your ticket.
Story Screen will have popcorn, candy and soft drinks. Little Loaf will be serving their amazing vegan baked goods. Boozie drinks and non-boozie drinks will also be available thanks to contributions from Draught Industries and Tenmile Distillery. And the best part? Proceeds from this event will go to Trans Closet of the Hudson Valley, an organization creating direct ways for folks in our community to get the affirming clothing and resources they need.
Note: There are lots of chairs at the Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory, but there may not have enough for everyone, so if you have a comfy folding chair, beanbag or cushion, please bring it!
Film Synopsis: As America's stock of athletic young men is depleted during World War II, a professional all-female baseball league springs up in the Midwest, funded by publicity-hungry candy-maker Walter Harvey (Garry Marshall). Competitive sisters Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) and Kit Keller (Lori Petty) spar with each other, scout Ernie Capadino (Jon Lovitz) and grumpy has-been coach Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) on their way to fame. Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell co-star as two of the sisters' teammates. Rated PG.
