Guest conductor Andr Raphel and the Hudson Valley Philharmonic present Gustav Holst’s "The Planets" at the Bardavon 1869 Opera House.

"The Planets" was inspired by astrology rather than astronomy, but this powerful concert will be augmented with the premiere of extraordinary projected outer space imagery, including those recently recovered from the Webb and Hubble Telescopes! The concert will also feature the 2020 HVP String Competition winner, cellist Leland Ko, performing Tchaikovsky’s "Variations on a Rococco Theme, op 33." Ticket holders are invited to a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. with astronomer/filmmaker Jos Francisco Salgado and Andr Raphel.

Program highlights:

Dvok – "Karneval Overture" ("Carnival").
Tchaikovsky – "Variations on a Rococco Theme, op 33" with cellist Leland Ko, the 2020 HVP String Competition Winner
Holst – "The Planets" with Cappella Festiva Women’s Choir and projected images by astronomer/filmmaker Jos Francisco Salgado, Ph.D.
