Take a step back in time at Clermont’s annual Independence Day extravaganza! Listen to readings from Frederick Douglass’ “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” Members of the 34th Regiment of Foot will demonstrate British Army camp life. Re-enactors will demonstrate such skills as sewing, weaving, blacksmithing and Palatine-style cooking. Enjoy tales and songs for children, along with stories and performances of enslaved and indigenous people. Hear traditional Scottish music played on the bagpipes to celebrate the Livingston’s heritage. The afternoon will culminate with the reading of the Declaration of Independence. Stick around to watch the Saugerties fireworks across the river. While you wait, enjoy an evening of music with local favorites, The Wallpapers. To purchase tickets, click here.
