Shipp will perform in advance of a new solo piano release, The Piano Equation, at the acoustically sublime Howland Cultural Center on their 19th c. Steinway grand piano.
Shipp's longtime label and separate distributor of this new solo recording, AUM Fidelity, will be on hand for this concert, with extensive selections from AUM Fidelity's substantial and historic catalog available for sale.
Elysium Furnace Works' 2020 roster embraces a fiercely independent, eclectic diversity, featuring exceptional artists from a wide array of musics.
Other concerts EFW will present in 2020 include:
April 4: Joseph Daley Tuba Trio the virtuoso tuba player/composer and a past performer with a wide array of musicians encompassing everyone from Sam Rivers to Taj Mahal, Kronos Quartet to Natalie Merchant, among countless others, Daley performs in this accomplished trio featuring Scott Robinson on reeds and Warren Smith on drums.
May 16: Sara Schoenbeck + Wayne Horvitz The Wire magazine places Schoenbeck in the tiny club of bassoon pioneers, a statement with which her past associates like Anthony Braxton, Nels Cline, etc. would undoubtedly agree; she joins forces with the veteran Downtown keyboardist and composer Horvitz (Naked City, The President, Fontella Bass, Eddie Palmieri) in a duo combining compositional acuity with ardent spontaneity.
May 30: exclusiveOr this duo featuring the director of the CHIME (Chicago Integrated Media Experimental Studio) Studio at the University of Chicago, laptop artist Sam Pluta, and director of both Electronic Music and the Princeton Laptop Orchestra at Princeton University, analog synthethist Jeff Snyder, creates uncanny real-time electronic sound structures which fluidly warp space-time, leaving far behind any conventional definition of music.
