Friends of Blithewood Garden and the Garden Conservancy will host a celebration of historic Blithewood Garden at Bard College. A Celebration of Blithewood Garden: 115 Years of Beauty on the Hudson, includes a garden party on the Blithewood lawn, as well as a panel discussion featuring leading garden historians and preservationists.
Lawn Party: A free family event with birthday cupcakes and snacks, childrens lawn games, garden tours, and goats. It takes place from 2 to 4 p.m., rain or shine, on the lawn outside Blithewood Mansion, the research and conference facility of the Levy Economics Institute of Bard College. Reservations are recommended, but not required.
Panel Discussion: The Architectural Garden: Challenges of Preserving Formal Structures in the Landscape, takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Levy Economics Institute and features Judith Tankard, author and garden historian; Sarah Vance, director of the Blue Garden in Newport, Rhode Island; and Stephen Byrns, president of the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy in Yonkers, New York. James Brayton Hall, president and CEO of the Garden ConservancyBards partner in the rehabilitation of Blithewood Gardenwill moderate the panel.
