Tourism partners from across the county joined Destination Dutchess on May 6, 2026, to celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week (NTTW) at their brochure exchange and networking event. The annual event, held at the Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum’s Waterfront Pavilion in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., recognizes the essential role travel plays in strengthening the local economy, supporting small businesses and enhancing quality of life in Dutchess County.
Established by the U.S. Travel Association, this year’s NTTW theme, “Postmarked: Essential,” underscores how travel leaves a lasting imprint on communities nationwide. In Dutchess County, tourism continues to serve as a foundational pillar of economic vitality and cultural connection, welcoming visitors from across the globe to experience the region’s history, landscapes and vibrant small businesses.
According to Melaine Rottkamp, president and CEO of Destination Dutchess, the industry’s economic contributions are undeniable with an average of $2.2 million a day being spent by visitors to Dutchess County who also account for more than half of all credit card spending at the county’s restaurants and retail shops. Additionally, visitors in 2024 contributed more than $98 million in state and local taxes, reducing the tax burden on county residents by $851 per household.
“Travel is essential to the strength and spirit of Dutchess County and New York State,” said Rottkamp. “At the heart of our tourism industry are the people — our partners, small businesses and community ambassadors — whose passion and dedication bring Dutchess County to life for every visitor. National Travel and Tourism Week allows us to celebrate those who make our destination welcoming, authentic and truly world-class.”
Destination Dutchess also recognized the impact of its Certified Tourism Ambassador® (CTA) program at the event. Since its 2022 launch, the organization has trained more than 700 CTAs who play a vital role in community outreach, helping ensure visitors feel welcomed, informed and inspired to explore all corners of the county.
Lorraine Mirabella was presented with the first-ever Dutchess CTA of the Year Award, making her eligible for the International CTA of the Year Star Award recognition by the Tourism Ambassador Institute®. Since joining the program in 2023, Mirabella has distinguished herself through her passion, curiosity and exceptional volunteerism for Dutchess County tourism, serving as an ambassador at Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park and supporting the Destination Dutchess team with outreach communications and special projects. Known for her enthusiasm and commitment to uplifting others, Mirabella embodies the spirit of the CTA program and the hospitality that defines Dutchess County.
As part of the celebration, Destination Dutchess also announced the release of its 2026 Inspiration Guide, a curated resource designed to help visitors plan their stay with themed itineraries, destination spotlights and insider recommendations. The 2024 and 2025 guides were recognized with various industry excellence awards. Complementing the guide are specialty companion brochures focused on biking, craft beverages and farm experiences, offering tailored inspiration for travelers with specific interests and encouraging deeper exploration throughout Dutchess County. All are available free of charge to residents as well as visitors at one of their 21 Tourism Information Points throughout the county.
In addition to recognizing local tourism champions, Destination Dutchess highlighted a series of initiatives tied to America’s 250th anniversary. Dutchess County is showcasing its pivotal role in the Revolutionary War through engaging, immersive experiences.
The Story Finder: Rev250 Edition free mobile passport invites visitors to explore 25 sites across the county, tracing the road to the Revolution and the chance to win prizes. On June 13, RevCon will transform the grounds of Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum into a living history festival featuring Revolutionary War reenactments, military demonstrations, lectures and hands-on activities for all ages. The second round of limited-edition Commander in Cheers Beers will launch at RevCon with a special tasting opportunity. The Revolutionary Cider Celebration, taking place June 27 at Fishkill Farms, will explore the relationship between food, craft beverages, agriculture and the Revolution with displays, lectures, wagon ride orchard tours, live Americana music and storytelling rooted in the region’s past.
