Located in the city of Poughkeepsie, the congregation was established by African-American’s in 1836. This historic church holds much prominence due to its’ rich history. In the 1900’s, Smith Metropolitan was known in the Black Community as “The Church” where many professionals and dignitaries were active members. Although much has changed since then, the church still sees a high attendance of community members that participate in diverse expressions of worship.
