New York Stage and Film has been an incubator for emerging and established artists and their work since 1985, and this summer’s festival on Marist University’s scenic riverfront campus features four weeks full of imaginative and insightful plays and musicals. Hundreds of artists trace their developmental roots to New York Stage and Film, including the Tony Award winners "Hamilton" (Lin-Manuel Miranda), "Hadestown" (Anais Mitchell), "The Humans" (Stephen Karam), and "Doubt" (John Patrick Shanley).

"The Maltese Falcon"

• This one-night-only performance of "The Maltese Falcon" is a stage adaptation by Betty Shamieh based on the classic noir novel by Dashiell Hammett, which illuminates a gritty tale of murder, deception, and greed set in San Francisco at the height of the Great Depression.

• Venue: Bardavon 1869 Opera House, Poughkeepsie

• Performance: July 10, 8 p.m.
